The New York Islanders will be hoping that their offense can stay hot when they take on the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night. The Islanders were able to defeat the Sharks 4-3 in the shootout earlier this season.

On Thursday, the Islanders lost their second game in a row when they were shut out 5-0 by the Colorado Avalanche. They were 0-for-6 on their power play opportunities and they missed on all 40 of their shots in that loss.

Despite that rough outing against Colorado, the Islanders are still near the top of the league in scoring with 3.5 goals per game. Star center John Tavares has scored four goals and he is tied for the team lead with 12 points. Netminder Jaroslav Halak has a 3-3-0 record in his six starts with a 3.51 GAA and an .889 save percentage.

The Sharks gave up a two-goal lead in the third period in their game against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday and ended up losing 4-3 in the shootout. They were 1-for-2 on their power play chances in that game, but they also allowed the Wild to get 46 shots on their goal.

Through 12 games, the Sharks are averaging 3.2 goals per game while giving up 2.8 goals per game. Defenseman Brent Burns has been great so far this season, scoring four goals and assisting on nine others.
