The New York Islanders and the Ottawa Senators last saw each other back in early November, a game that the Islanders ended up winning 5-4 in overtime. This game was made for the type of hockey fan who loves offense, as a total of 88 shots were taken and nine goals were scored.

Erik Condra of the Senators was the first to score in this one, getting his first on the season 18:38 into the first period. Just over a minute later, the Sens would double their lead when Mika Zibanejad scored off of an assist from Erik Karlsson and Chris Phillips.

The second period was a tale of two halves, with no goals being scored in the first nine minutes and five being scored from that point on. John Tavares and Matt Martin scored within 30 seconds of each other, making the score 2-2. The Senators would get the next two through Bobby Ryan and Clarke MacArthur tallies before Pierre-Marc Bouchard brought the Islanders back to within one heading into the third period.

Just three minutes into the third, Frans Nielsen would get the game-tying goal on his eighth of the season. After a scoreless overtime period, Nielsen would be the hero again for New York, scoring the lone goal of the shootout.

Bobby Ryan had a goal and an assist for the Senators, while Robin Lehner saved 53 of the 57 shots he faced in the loss.
