Tuesday night, the battle of New York continues with another meeting between the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers.
The New York Islanders will approach this one with a 2-0-0 record after outlasting the Carolina Hurricanes last Saturday. Carolina had lost their opener but they proved to be a tough opponent for the Islanders. The 1st period of that game was a back and forth battle as the teams traded goals. It was knotted up at 2 -2 going into the 2nd period but the Islanders stretched out to a 4 -2 lead after goals by Brock Nelson and Josh Bailey. With a 2 goal lead, New York could stand to allow the Hurricanes a 3rd period goal. But if they want to remain undefeated, they can’t afford to be too generous to their rival Rangers.
The Rangers themselves won’t be in that great a mood as they take the ice in this game. New York got blown out in their Sunday night game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. After the Leafs took a 1 - 0 lead in the 1st, the Rangers tied the game. It was still close after Toronto went up 2 -0 early in the 2nd. But things went downhill for New York after Toronto opened up 4 -1 lead. Even with another goal in the 2nd, New York couldn’t slow down Toronto. They were down 6 - 2 going into the 3rd and a late goal really didn’t matter. So, with a 1-2-0 record, the Rangers will look to shake off that loss by putting up a better effort against the Islanders.
