On Friday night, the New York Islanders will be looking to extend their two-game winning streak when they visit the Detroit Red Wings. Last season, the Islanders were able to win two out of their three games against the Red Wings.

On Monday, the Islanders stayed hot at home by defeating the New Jersey Devils 3-2 in the shootout. They were goalless on their three power play opportunities in that win, but they were also able to outshoot the Devils 33-28.

Through their first 31 games this season, the Islanders are one of the top scoring teams in the Eastern Conference by averaging three goals per game. Right wing Kyle Okposo has been one of their better offensive players this year by notching seven goals and a team-high 20 assists. Netminder Jaroslav Halak is 16-6-0 this season with three shutouts and a .917 save percentage.

On Tuesday night, the Red Wings lost their fourth game in a row when they were shut out 1-0 in the shootout by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Their offense struggled against in that game, but goalie Jimmy Howard was able to stop all 29 of the shots that came his way during regulation.

Through their first 32 games, the Red Wings are near the top of the Eastern Conference in goals against by only giving up 2.3 goals per game. Center Gustav Nyquist has been their top scorer so far this year by scoring 14 goals.
