Thursday night, the New York Islanders will travel to the TD Garden to take on the Boston Bruins.

The New York Islanders ended up on the losing side of the ledger in their last game as they lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs 5 – 2 on Tuesday night.  Things started well for the Islanders even though they didn’t end well.  New York scored less than 3 minutes into the game and were up 2 -1 at the end of the 1st period.  But that was the last lead that they would enjoy.  Toronto scored 4 straight goals in the 2nd period to put the game out of reach. It was just another example of the Islanders giving up too many goals.  New York has given up 8 goals in their last 2 games and even though they are at the top of the Metropolitan Division, they won’t be able to stay there if the defense doesn’t tighten up.  And unfortunately for New York, Boston has been finding the back of the net pretty regularly in recent games.

The Boston Bruins beat the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night 5 -3.  After a 1-1 1st period, San Jose went up 3 -2 in the 2nd.  But Boston broke the game wide open in the 3rd with a 3 goals flurry to win the game. Boston was 2 for 3 on the power play and their penalty kill unit showed up when they needed them to.  The Bruins have scored 9 goals in their last 2 games and will certainly test a New York defense that has had its share of problems.
