On Wednesday, the New York Islanders will try to snap their three-game losing skid when they face the solid defense of the Anaheim Ducks. Last season, the Ducks were able to beat the Islanders in both of their regular season meetings.
The Islanders lost their third game in a row last Saturday when they were beaten 3-1 by the San Jose Sharks on the road. They only had 20 shots on goal in that game and they finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
Through 11 games, the Islanders are near the top of the league in scoring with 3.2 goals scored per game. Second-year center Brock Nelson has had a great start to the season by scoring six goals and providing an assist on six more. Goaltender Jaroslav Halak has a 3-4-0 record this season with an .891 save percentage and a 3.44 GAA.
The Ducks continued their hot start to the season on Sunday when they defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 on the road. They were 0-for-5 on the power play in that game, but they were also able to outshoot the Avs 33-18.
The Ducks have scored 2.7 goals per game this season while only giving up 1.8 goals per game to their opponents. Their top player has been right wing Corey Perry, who has 11 goals and four assists in his team's first 13 games. Netminder Frederik Andersen has been excellent by going 7-1-0 with a 1.60 GAA and a .941 save percentage.
