Friday night, the New Jersey Devils will take the ice at the Verizon center as they face the Washington Capitals.

The New Jersey Devils picked up their first win since the beginning of the month on Tuesday as they beat the Minnesota Wild 3 -1. After playing a scoreless 1^st period, the Devils broke the game open with 2 goals in the 2^nd period. Minnesota cut the lead to 2 -1 early in the 3^rd period but New Jersey added one more late in the period to guarantee the win. Despite ending a four game losing streak, the Devils did have some issues. They went 1 for 7 on the power play but were able to shutdown the Wild on their 4 power play opportunities. The Devils will need some tough defense against a high scoring Washington team.

The Washington Capitals had no trouble finding the back of the net in their last game. The Caps got their 3^rd straight win as they beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4 -2 on Tuesday night. Washington lit the lamp twice early on and despite a Columbus goal, were still up 3 - 1 at the end of the 1^st period. Columbus made it interesting by scoring the only goal of the 2^nd period and cutting the deficit to 3 -2 going into the 3 ^rd. But the Capitals scored one last time in the 3^rd to seal the win. The Capitals have done well on the power play this season but they might encounter some resistance from the Devils' penalty killing unit. Special teams always make the difference in games and they should factor into this one.
