Thursday night, the New Jersey Devils will travel to the nation’s capital to face the Washington Capitals.  The Devils will try to remain undefeated.

The New Jersey Devils will be coming off of a hard fought 2 – 1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning Tuesday night.  In that game, neither team could get on the board in the 1st period.  When the scoring started in the 2nd, it was New Jersey that struck first blood. Travis Zajac put them up 1 - 0 and that‘s where the game stood going into the 3rd.  But Tampa Bay tied it almost mid way through the period but New Jersey’s Mike Cammalleri broke the tie late and that one goal was all that was needed.   If New Jersey continues to play as well defensively as they have so far, Washington will have a hard time keeping up with them. 

The Washington Capitals haven’t started well this season. They lost a heartbreaker to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.  After going down 3 - 0 in the 1st, the Caps rallied back.  They cut the lead to just a goal in the 2nd and at the beginning of the 3rd, it was a 4 -3 game.  Two late goals in the 3rd made it 5 -5 and sent the game to an overtime period where neither team could find a way to score.  San Jose won the shootout and the game.  Washington played uncharacteristic poor defense and that put them in a hole that they ultimately couldn’t get out of.  They will need to be at their best defensively if they want to compete with the Devils.
