The New Jersey Devils will be taking on the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night in a game between two of the better power plays in the Eastern Conference. The Devils were able to defeat the Flyers 6-4 in their opening game of the season.

On Tuesday night, the Devils couldn't get into an offensive rhythm in their game against the Chicago Blackhawks and ended up losing 3-2 in the shootout. They finished with only one power play opportunity and were outshot 39-24 on the night.

Through their first 29 games, the Devils have had one of the worst penalty kills in the league by allowing opposing power plays to score on 75.9 percent of their chances. Veteran winger Jaromir Jagr has five goals on the season and leads the team in points with 17. Goaltender Cory Schneider has an 11-12-3 record this year with a 2.50 GAA and a .918 save percentage.

The Flyers have now lost seven out of their last eight games after losing 3-2 in overtime to the Columbus Blue Jackets. They were outshot 43-21 in that loss and ended up allowing the Blue Jackets to score on two of their four power play chances.

So far this year, the Flyers have averaged 2.6 goals per game, but they are also giving up three goals per game. Goalie Steve Mason has a 5-9-4 record with one shutout, a 2.69 GAA and a .917 save percentage this season.
