The New Jersey Devils and the Florida Panthers last met on January 11th in a game that needed overtime to find a winner. This was a defensive game with the Devils finally winning in overtime with a final score of 2-1. The Panthers goalie, Tim Thomas, had a 34 save game, but it was not enough to stop the Devil’s Marek Zidlicky from scoring in overtime with only 2.4 seconds left on the clock.

The New Jersey Devils goalie managed twenty six saves during the win. The Devils got their only points during regulation during the first period while the Panthers managed to score late in the second period. The Panthers had a chance to end the game in the third, but Zidlicky managed a diving save to send the game into overtime.

The coach of the Florida Panthers, Peter Horachek, commented after the game that his team was outplayed and that they were lucky to get the one goal that his team did score. Both New Jersey and Florida are near the bottom of their divisions and have little chance at a playoff run. Neither team has been able to get any momentum this season, and both teams have had trouble stringing together wins.
