The New Jersey Devils will seek their second win of the season as they travel to face the Florida Panthers.  

Although the New Jersey Devils got the win over the Philadelphia Flyers in their season debut, they didn’t make it easy.  New Jersey took the lead midway through the 1st period and were up 1 - 0 at the end of the 1st.  Early in the 2nd, the net seemed to get bigger for the Devils as they quickly took a 3 -0 lead.  But New Jersey blew the lead just as quickly.  Three Flyer goals made it a tie game at the end of the 2nd. The Devils regained the lead early in the 3rd but gave it up less than a minute later.  New Jersey would need late goals by Dainius Zubrus and Mike Cammalleri to get by.  A more balanced effort against the Panthers could help the Devils avoid a tougher fight and make a potential win a little easier to get.

The Florida Panthers played a tough season opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning but their efforts fell just short in the 3 - 2 loss.   Despite the close score, the numbers weren’t good for the Panthers.  They were 0 for 2 on the power play, they gave up more shots on goal than they took and they lost the battle on face-offs. With some more consistency, the game could have easily been a win for Florida.  And given the way that New Jersey played in their last game, if the Panthers could establish themselves early on, they could pick up their first win on the new season.
