On Monday night, the New Jersey Devils will be squaring off against the Carolina Hurricanes in a game that will feature two of the lowest-scoring teams in the Eastern Conference.

Last season, the Devils were able to win three out of their four games against the Hurricanes. They won the first three games of that regular season series, which included both of the games in North Carolina.

Hurricanes center Eric Staal has played against the Devils 39 times in his career, but he has only been able to notch four goals and 16 assists in those games. Jeff Skinner has accumulated 11 points in his 14 games against New Jersey, while goalie Cam Ward has gone 9-13-2 against them in his career with an .899 save percentage and a 2.82 GAA.

The Devils were held scoreless in the second and third periods of their game against the Washington Capitals on Saturday and lost 4-1. They lost that game despite outshooting the Capitals 34-29 and outhitting them 19-9.

Through their first 27 games of the season, the Devils have one of the worst penalty kills in the league by giving up a goal 74.3 percent of the time they're on the ice. Despite their rough start to the season, goalie Cory Schneider has done pretty well by going 10-12-3 with a 2.56 GAA and a .915 save percentage.
