The Buffalo Sabres last played the New Jersey Devils in early January and were able to beat them 2-1 on home ice. The win was just the 12th of the season for the last place Sabres, but it was their fifth straight home win. After no goals were scored in the first period, Matt Moulson got the Sabres on the board first with a power-play goal with just 31 seconds remaining in the second period. The goal was the first one that Buffalo had gotten with the extra man in three games. They had failed on the previous 22 power-play opportunities before Moulson made it 1-0 in this one.

Seven minutes into the third period, the Devils would tie it up thanks to a Michael Ryder power-play strike of his own. That lead would only last a few minutes, though, as Matt D'Agostini would score his first of the season on yet another power-play goal. It was just the second time on the season that the Sabres were able to score more than one power-play goal in a game.

Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller was able to save 21 shots of the 22 he faced on his way to his sixth straight home win. Over that stretch, he had only allowed a total of eight goals.

New Jersey netminder Cory Schneider had 20 saves in the loss.
