On a six game losing steak, the Edmonton Oilers used everybody they could including goalie Ben Scivens, who made 34 saves in a 5-1 win against the Nashville Predators when these two teams last faced off. Edmonton started things off early in the first when Jesse Joensuu caught Justin Schultz streaking from the point and was able to hook a pass over. Schultz got a handle on it and pounded it past Predators goalie Carter Hutton.

At the 15:25 mark, Nashville showed some signs of life when Legwand got away on a two-on-one break. Legwand kept the puck and shot past Scivens to tie things up. But with 12 seconds to go in the period, Edmonton would add one more of their own when Taylor Hall sliced the defense with a pass that landed on Jordan Eberle's stick and was redirected in, giving the Oilers the lead.

The second and third periods belonged to the Oilers. Ryan Smyth took advantage of a second period power-play when Hutton blocked a blistering shot that left the rebound out in the crease for Smyth to put it in. The score got bumped to 4-1 when Nail Yakupov scored his 10th goal of the season with three minutes to go in the period. And then with five minutes left to go in the game, on a power-play, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins stuck one more past Hutton to end the scoring for the game. Despite the score, Nashville out-shot the Oilers 17-7 in the third period.
