The last time Calgary played Nashville, the Predators Eric Nystrom was on fire, scoring the only four goals that the Predators had in regulation. In Nystrom's 457 game career he had only had two multiple goal games coming up to this night. Despite his efforts and getting the Predators to a shootout, the Calgary Flames came out on top 5-4.
Nystrom got things started off early as he fired a shot from the slot that got past Flames goalie Karri Ramo, 1:51 into the first. Just a few minutes later Mark Giordano of the Flames tied it up with a power-play goal, one of three in the game for Calgary. The rest of the period was scoreless. In the second, just 1:50 in, Nystrom struck again with a rebounded shot that he stuck under Ramo. Then again, four minutes-and-fifty seconds later, Nystrom picked up his third goal, giving the Predators a 3-1 lead.
The third period would see two power-play goals from the Flames. One from David Jones, 1:24 into the period and one from Mikael Backlund, 12:27 into the period. In between that action, Nystrom would score again, assisted by Matt Cullen and Roman Josi. The final regulation goal came by the hands of Jones again, who had an early power-play goal in the period. That tied things up and forced an overtime which settled nothing. A shootout ensued, and Josi beat goalie Reto Berra standing in for Ramo, but the Predators had three other chances and they were all denied by Berra. The Flames scored two of their four free shots to win the game; one by Jiri Hudler and one by Sean Monahan.
