Two teams from north of the border will get together in Vancouver. The Montreal Canadiens, out of the Eastern Conference, will take on Vancouver Canucks, from the Western Conference. The Montreal Canadiens come in with a great record; as they have won 7 of their first 9 games of the season. It took a shootout on Tuesday, but they downed the Flames Tuesday night. Vancouver, with the win on Tuesday over Carolina improved to 6-3-0. The win over the Hurricanes left them as the lone winless team in the NHL.
The Canucks have seen a pretty solid start out of goaltender Ryan Miller. Miller came over from St. Louis and has won 6 of his first 7 starts. The goal scoring for Vancouver has come from several sources, including Daniel Sedin. Sedin leads the team with 11 points, including 9 assists. Vancouver ranks as the 5th highest scoring team in the NHL with 3.3 goals per game. The Canucks are looking to improve upon a very disappointing season of a year ago, in which they finalized the season with just 36 wins.
Montreal has not been a high scoring team, which is surprising for the amount of success they have had. In 9 games, the Canadiens have scored just 27 goals, but allowed only 26. The Canadiens have seen their center Tomas Plekanec record 5 goals and 4 assists in the early going. Montreal is seeking to improve upon their 2013-2014 season, in which saw them win 46 games, and end up with 100 points. The Canadiens goaltender Carey Price saved 37 of 38 shots on Tuesday night, and is allowing 2.67 goals per game.
