The last time the Toronto Maple Leafs came to play the Montreal Canadiens, they may of thought they had an advantage with Montreal starting goalie Carey Price out. He had a separated groin injury he suffered helping Canada earn a gold medal in the Olympics. But the unfortunate news for the Maple Leafs was that backup goalie Peter Budaj was adapting to his temporary starting role quite well. Budaj had two wins and an overtime loss coming into the match up. He played well again making 22 saves helping the Canadiens to a 4-3 win over Toronto.

The Canadiens got off to a two goal lead in the first with goals by Alex Galchenyuk and Max Pacioretty. Pacioretty had two goals in the game including a game winner in overtime. Late in the first, Toronto found a way to get on the board with a goal from James van Riemsdyk, who also had two goals in the game.

The second period had no goals, but the third brought up another goal from Montreal's Riemsdyk at the 5:28 mark. Then Toronto would strike again with a Phil Kessel goal, who also had an earlier assist. After that, penalties became a problem for the Maple Leafs. Halfway through the third, P.K. Subban would score off of a power-play, tying the game up and sending it into overtime. There the Maple Leafs would get another penalty which lead to a Pacioretty score and the end the game.
