The Montreal Canadiens were able to beat the Florida Panthers 2-1 the last time the teams played one another. The Canadiens relied heavily on goaltender Carey Price, who was able to save all 16 of the shots that he faced in the final period.

David Desharnais got Montreal out to an early lead by scoring and getting the assist from Max Pacioretty. It wasn't an easy goal by any means, as Desharnais first missed the puck altogether before beating Panthers goalie Tim Thomas on his second try.

Sean Bergenheim, who had four shots in that final period, was able to get one back for the Panthers later in the first period. Rookie Aleksander Barkov assisted on the goal, giving him a team-best 15 helpers on the year and also extended his points streak to six games. Brian Gionta scored the eventual game-winner for the Canadiens at the 15:46 mark of the second period.

Price had 26 saves on the night, but it was his ability to keep the Panthers off of the scoreboard in the third period that impressed the most. Florida had 11 players take shots at Price, but the seven-year vet made fantastic save after fantastic save to maintain the host's lead. This was the first time the Canadiens beat the Panthers this season after losing the first two matchups.

Thomas had a good game himself for the Panthers, stopping 33 of the 35 shots he faced on the night.
