In Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals, the Montreal Canadiens were able to win on the road by beating the Boston Bruins 4-3 in double overtime. Boston lost despite outshooting Montreal 51-33 on the night.

Defenseman P.K. Subban was able to put the Canadiens up 1-0 midway through the first period with a power-play goal. Three minutes into the second period, Rene Bourque was able to double Montreal's lead with his fourth goal of the playoffs.

The Bruins came charging back in the third period through two early goals by Reilly Smith Torey Krug, but Francis Bouillon was able to put the Canadians back on top at the 12:09 mark. With two minutes left in the game, though, Johnny Boychuk would force overtime when he tied the score at 3-3.

There was plenty of offense from both teams in the first overtime period, but the game-winner wouldn't come until four minutes into the second OT when Subban made a slap shot from the point that got over the glove of Bruins' goalie Tuukka Rask.

Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov had two assists in the win, while goaltender Carey Price had a fantastic night in net by stopping 48 of the 51 shots he faced.

Rask finished with an .879 save percentage after stopping 29 of the Bruins' 33 shots attempts. Left wing Brad Marchand had two assists for the hosts.
