The Minnesota Wild will be going on the road on Tuesday night to take on the Chicago Blackhawks in a game between two of the top five penalty kills in the league. Last season, the Wild were able to win three out of their five games against the Blackhawks.
On Saturday, the Wild scored a goal late in the third period against the Arizona Coyotes to send the game into overtime, then went on to win 4-3 in the shootout. They outshot the Coyotes 35-30 in that win and ended up going 2-for-3 on the power play.
Minnesota's penalty kill is one of the top five in the league right now by only giving up a goal 12.6 percent of the time when they are on the ice. Left wing Zach Parise has 11 goals and 12 assists so far this season, while defenseman Ryan Suter currently leads the team in assists with 17. Starting goalie Darcy Kuemper has an 11-9-0 record with three shutouts and a 2.45 GAA.
The Blackhawks have now won nine of their last 10 games after defeating the Calgary Flames 2-1 at home on Sunday night. In that game, they went 1-for-2 on the power play and were able to hold the Flames to just 24 shots on goal.
Through their first 31 games, the Blackhawks are near the top of the league in scoring and have the top penalty kill. Right wing Patrick Kane has been their best offensive player so far this season by scoring 14 goals and providing an assist on 15 others.
