Friday night, the Los Angeles Kings will take the ice at Joe Louis Arena as they visit the Detroit Red Wings.

Los Angeles will resume their 4 game road trip with a stop in Detroit after two stops in Pennsylvania.  The Kings played the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.  It’s a relatively short trip from Pittsburgh to Detroit but two tough games in a matter of days can wear down the best of teams, even if they are the defending Stanley Cup Champions.  And the Kings will take on a solid Detroit team that could take advantage of a tired Los Angeles team.

The Detroit Red Wings had to work hard to get past their Wednesday night opponents, the Washington Capitals.  After a slow start, the Red Wings heated up late to get a 4 – 2 victory.  Neither team found the back of the net in the 1st period but the game opened up in the 2nd.  After the Red Wings scored first, the Capitals answered with 2 goals to take a 2 - 1 lead going into the 3rd.  But Detroit rallied in the 3rd with 2 goals by Justin Abdelkader and a final goal by Pavel Datsyuk.  Ordinarily against a top team like the Kings, the Red Wings couldn’t afford to fall behind and hope for a late rally.  But if the Kings come in road-weary, they could be an easy target for the Red Wings.
