On Saturday night, the Los Angeles Kings will try to pick up their first win of the year when they face the Arizona Coyotes. Last season, the Coyotes were able to win three of their five games against the Kings.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles played their first game since winning the Stanley Cup last season and were promptly blown out 4-0 by the San Jose Sharks. They gave up three second period goals and their offense failed to capitalize on their five power play opportunities.

In that opening game, Kings center Trevor Lewis had six shots on goal, but he missed all of them and finished the game with a minus-1. Goalie Jonathan Quick saved just 23 of the 27 shots he faced before being replaced in the third period.

Arizona played the Winnipeg Jets in their home opener on Thursday night and ended up losing 6-2. They gave up four first-period goals in that loss and their offense came up empty on their five power-play opportunities. The Jets were able to outhit the Coyotes 23-13 in that game.

Coyotes left wing Martin Erat had an assist in that game against the Jets, but he was on the ice for five of Winnipeg’s six goals. Arizona's two goals were scored by left wing Mikkel Boedker and center Martin Hanzal. Netminder Mike Smith was only able to stop 21 of the 26 shots he faced for a low .778 save percentage.
