Recording his first shutout in his NHL career, San Jose Sharks' goalie Alex Stalock made 24 saves including a few pivotal saves in the third to help San Jose take a 3-0 win over the Florida Panthers when these two teams last faced each other. With a scoreless first period and a nearly scoreless second, the Panthers physically outplayed the Sharks, recording 40 hits to San Jose's 21. Regardless of the physical play, with just 51 seconds to go Joe Thornton for the Sharks managed to get a loose puck in the neutral zone and turned it into a breakaway. He skated into goalie Tim Thomas and delivered slap a shot that flew over Thomas' glove for a goal.

When the third period came around, San Jose started to outwork the Panthers. Stalack had probably one of his most important saves of the game when he stoned Scottie Upshall with a leg save that was picked up by the Sharks and quickly pushed the other way. Tyler Kennedy got off a quick shot from the right side that Thomas stretched out and saved, but the rebound went to Matt Nieto who sweeped it in for a Sharks 2-0 lead.

The last goal came off a rebound at the hands of Joe Pavelski with 11:46 to go, putting the Sharks up 3-0 and giving them the shutout victory over the Panthers. Pavelski leads the Sharks with 22 goals and had 13 points in his past 13 games.
