In their game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, the Panthers picked up a 2-1 shootout win on the road. Goalie Steve Mason had one of his better games in that one by stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced.

The Panthers are near the bottom of the league in a lot of offensive categories, but they have done well to hold opponents under 2.5 goals per game. Center Nick Bjugstad has had a good start to the season by scoring a team-high 12 goals.

On Thursday night, the Penguins won their second straight games when they shut out the Colorado Avalanche 1-0 in overtime. Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury had another strong game in that win by stopping all 29 shots that came his way.

So far this season, the Penguins are the only team in the league that is in the top five in scoring and in goals against. Fleury now has a 18-4-2 record on the year with six shutouts, a .930 save percentage and a 2.01 GAA. Center Evgeni Malkin has a team-high 15 goals through 31 games, while Sidney Crosby leads the team in assists with 26.
