With the playoffs right around the corner, Radim Vrbata is putting together a run at just the right time. In his previous game against the Tampa Bay Lighting, he scored the only shootout goal to help the Coyotes take a win 4-3. Vrbata also has six points in the last four games, is second on the team in scoring with 19, and was able to put in a goal against the Florida Panthers to lead his team to a 3-1 victory the last time these two faced off.
The Coyotes came out strong with the first three goals of the game, one in the first, one in the second, and one in the third. In the first period, Mike Ribeiro, while on a power-play, caught a pass from Keith Yandle at the top of the right circle and was able to one-time it in past the glove side of goalie Roberto Lunogo late in the first. The Coyotes came back again in the second at the 9:43 mark, when Oliver Ekman-Larsson shot from just inside the blue line while Lunongo was being screened and seemingly had no chance.
The third period was when Vrbata added to the scoreboard, assisted by Antoine Vermette and Mikkel Boedker with 5:52 to go in the third to make the game 3-0. The Panthers would show a little bit of life when the Coyotes received a penalty in 3rd. With that penalty, Brandon Pirri took a shot from the high right circle that passed through several Coyote players before ending up in the the back of the net. This was Pirri's first goal since he was picked up by Florida in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks.
