The Edmonton Oilers will play the Vancouver Canucks in an early Pacific Division game on Saturday night. Vancouver won their season series against the Canucks last year by defeating them in three of their five matchups.

Edmonton got to play at home in their first game of the season on Thursday, but they were dominated by the Calgary Flames and lost 5-2. The Oilers lost despite getting 40 shots on goal in the game and converting on two of their three power-play chances.

Left wing Taylor Hall and right wing Teddy Purcell scored Edmonton's two goals in that game against Calgary. Defenseman Mark Fayne missed on his three shots and he was a minus-3 in the loss. Goaltender Ben Scrivens faced 26 shots in the game and was only able to stop 21 of them for a poor .808 save percentage.

On Wednesday night, Vancouver was able to pick up its first win with a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on the road. The Canucks converted one of their three power-play opportunities while stopping Calgary on all four of their power plays.

Goalie Ryan Miller made his debut for the Canucks in that game against the Flames and stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced to pick up the win. Henrik Sedin has a goal and an assist in that game, while Daniel Sedin and defenseman Mark Giordano each chipped in with one assist.
