The Pacific Division-leading San Jose Sharks did what they were expected to do the the last time they played the Edmonton Oilers by blowing them out 5-2 in Edmonton. Edmonton actually lead the game 1-0 through the first period, but the Sharks found their groove and scored five goals in the final two periods.

Joe Pavelski was definitely the Sharks' main man in the game as he finished with a hat trick for the third time on the season. Pavelski, who is having a career year for San Jose, scored his 35th, 36th and 37th goals of the season, two of which came on the power play.

David Perron got the Oilers off to a good start in this one, scoring just four minutes into the game off of an assist from Taylor Hall. Once the second period got started, though, it was all San Jose. Pavelski scored the first of his three goals early in the second period, followed by Patrick Marleau's power-play goal to make it 2-1. Martin Havlat scored his ninth of the season with just over 30 seconds left in the period.

Pavelski made it 4-1 just 1:17 into the third period and then scored his third goal of the game off of a slick pass from Joe Thornton. Taylor Hall would get one back for the Oilers, but it was all but over at that point.
