Tuesday night, the Edmonton Oilers will visit the Wells Fargo Center as they face the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Edmonton Oilers suffered a 3 -2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks in their last game on Saturday night. It was a close, tight game the entire way. After Jordan Eberle put Edmonton up 1 – 0 in the 1st, Vancouver answered late in the period to tie it up. Late in the 2nd, Vancouver went up 2 -1 but a little over a minute later Edmonton tied it up. But the game winning goal came early in the 3rd after Edmonton goalie Ben Scrivens didn’t send the puck up ice cleanly and Vancouver turned that pass into the game winner. Edmonton also lost leading scorer Taylor Hall to a leg injury. Edmonton has lost 2 straight but should have a chance to break that streak against a Philadelphia team that turned in a lackluster effort in their last game.
The Philadelphia Flyers had a lot of opportunities to score in their Saturday night matchup against the Florida Panthers but they wasted many of them in the 2 - 1 loss. The Flyers had won 4 of their last 5 going into Saturday’s game but they didn’t look that strong against the Panthers. Florida took a 1 – 0 lead in the 1st and Philadelphia was helpless to do anything. The 2nd period was scoreless and Florida extended the lead to 2 – 0 late in the 3rd. By the time Vinnie Lecavalier scored in the 3rd, it was just too late. The Flyers went 0 for 6 on the power play and that is a recipe for losing. The Oilers have a decent penalty killing unit but the Flyers will have to find a way past it if they want to add another win to their record.
