The Edmonton Oilers last played the Carolina Hurricanes on December 10th.  The Oilers won the game 5-4 in overtime. Edmonton managed a 4-1 lead during the game, but then let the Hurricanes back into the game during the third period.  The Hurricanes were able to score three goals in a row to send the game to overtime.  Edmonton managed to outshoot Carolina 14-6 during the first period of the game and during the second period the Oilers were about to pull ahead 4-1. 

It was during the third period that the Hurricanes started to gain some momentum with three scores coming in with only eight minutes left to play. During the overtime it was the Oilers’ Jordan Eberle who was able to score on Hurricanes’ goalie Devan Dubnyk.  Prior to this game these two teams had not met since December of 2011.

Currently the Edmonton Oilers are ranked last in their division and are almost a full forty points behind the division leader Anaheim Ducks.  Carolina is not faring much better and sits second to last in their division.  Carolina comes into this game just 3-7 in their last ten games while the Oilers are 5-5 in their last ten games.
