Friday night, the Edmonton Oilers will travel to the First Niagara Center to take on the Buffalo Sabres.

The Edmonton Oilers will come into this one after playing the Boston Bruins on Thursday night in Boston.  Edmonton has been on a downward slide in recent games and the prospect of back to back games on the road doesn’t help their chances of picking up a win.  Edmonton hasn’t played well on the road and their stop in Buffalo will be the 3rd of a five game trip. Before the Oilers can work on their road woes, they have to fix their overall problems.   The Oilers are surrendering too many goals and the power play has been ineffective.  Buffalo might be a good place for Edmonton to start fixing their problems.

The Buffalo Sabres have their own set of problems.  In their last game on Wednesday night, the Sabres fell to the Montreal Canadiens 2 -1 in a shootout.  In that game, the Sabres and Canadiens played 2 scoreless periods before either team could get to the back of the net.  Early in the 3rd period, the Canadiens scored first, but the Sabres responded just minutes later.  The back and forth continued for the rest of the period and through all of overtime and despite Buffalo scoring the first goal in the shootout, Montreal scored the last 2 to get the win.  Buffalo had the effort in that game but couldn’t come away with the win. That’s been a problem for them this season and they will look to change things with a win over Edmonton.
