Wednesday night, the Edmonton Oilers will take on the Arizona Coyotes. 

The Edmonton Oilers will make the short trip to Arizona after playing the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.  Back to back games have the potential of weakening a hockey team and this shouldn’t be any different.  But if there is any difference in this situation, it might be the short travel distance for the Oilers. A trip from California to Arizona isn’t that long but when you are sore and tired from a few hours of hockey, the trip isn’t long enough.  And waiting for the Oilers will be an Arizona team coming off a big win.

The Arizona Coyotes weren’t expected to compete with the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings in their Saturday night game, but they did more than compete.  They came away with a win.  A win didn’t look so certain early on after the Kings opened up a 2 - 0 lead in the 1st period.  But Arizona cut the lead in half with an Antoine Vermette power play goal to end the period.   Arizona tied it up in the 2nd and that’s where the game stayed until the end of regulation.  And in overtime, Oliver Ekman-Larsson broke the tie with a game winner on the power play.     The Coyotes outshot the Kings 40 -26 and were 2 of 4 on the power play.  If they can post numbers like that on Wednesday night, they could notch another one in the win column.
