Friday night, the Detroit Red Wings will be in Toronto to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs.  It will be the 1st half of a home and home series between the 2 teams. 

The Detroit Red Wings will try to forget their Wednesday night loss to the Boston Bruins.  The Red Wings fell to the Bruins 3 - 2 after a shootout. As tight as the game was, it wasn’t a shock that it had to be decided by a shootout.  Even though Boston struck first blood to take the 1 – 0 lead early in the 1st, Detroit quickly responded and tied the game.  In the 2nd period, Boston made the lone goal and went up 2 – 0.  But Detroit battled back and early in the 3rd period, they tied it up on a Gustav Nyquist power play goal.  After the scoreless overtime period, Boston emerged victorious in the shootout.   So far this season, the Red Wings haven’t lit the lamp with regularity but they haven’t allowed too many goals either.   If they can boost their scoring just a little, they might see some wins come their way.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will look to add another home win like the one that they had in their Tuesday night game against the Colorado Avalanche.  The Leafs had to play a little longer to get the 3 -2 overtime win but they almost didn’t make it to overtime.  After the teams played to a 1 -1 1st period, the Avalanche took a 2 -1 lead in the 2nd.  It wasn’t until midway through the 3rd, that Toronto’s Joffrey Lupul tied it up again and sent the game to an extra period. But overtime period lasted just 34 seconds thanks to Phil Kessel’s game winner.  Toronto had the better numbers and should have been able to win the game outright in regulation.  More than likely, they will take better advantage of their opportunities against Detroit.
