On Saturday night, the Detroit Red Wings will be hoping that their offense can break out when they face the struggling defense of the Philadelphia Flyers. Philadelphia was able to beat Detroit in two of their three games against each other last season.

On Thursday night, the Red Wings scored two goals in the third period in their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and eventually won 4-3 in overtime. They were 0-for-3 on their power play opportunities, but they also held the Penguins to just 26 shots on goal.

Red Wings veteran Henrik Zetterberg has three goals and seven assists through seven games, while right wing Gustav Nyquist leads the team in goals with four. Goalie Jimmy Howard has a 3-1-2 record and has a 1.96 GAA with a .929 save percentage.

The Flyers were able to score three goals in the third period in their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday to pull off a 5-3 road win. They did well to hold Pittsburgh's potent offense to just 25 shots in that game.

Through seven games, the Flyers are eighth in the league with 3.1 goals per game, and they are fifth with a 26.9 percent power play percentage. Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek both have two goals and seven assists to lead Philadelphia's offense. Netminder Steve Mason has an 0-3-1 record so far this year with a 3.83 GAA and an .878 save percentage.
