The Detroit Red Wings will take their top-rated penalty kill on the road on Wednesday night to take on the New York Rangers, who are currently in third in the Metropolitan Division.

The Rangers won all three of their games against the Red Wings during the 2013-14 season by a combined score of 7-2. They won the first matchup 3-2 in overtime, and they shut Detroit out in their final two meetings of the season.

Red Wings veteran Henrik Zetterberg has faced the Rangers nine times in his career and has two goals with four assists. Center Pavel Datsyuk has three goals, five assists and a +3 against them in 10 games. Netminder Jimmy Howard has gone up against New York five times and is 2-2-1 against them with a solid .949 save percentage.

In their game against the St. Louis Blues on Monday, the Rangers gave up a late third-period goal and ended up losing 4-3 in the shootout. They lost that game despite outshooting the Blues 39-34.

The Rangers are currently near the bottom of the league in both goals scored per game and goals against per game. Center Derick Brassard has had a pretty good start to the season by scoring four goals and providing five assists in his team's first 11 games. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is 5-3-1 on the season with two shutouts and a .902 save percentage.
