The Montreal Canadiens were able to beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 the last time these two teams played, which was just a couple of weeks ago. The Canadiens now lead the season series 2-1 going into their final meeting. Tomas Plekanec scored the first two goals for the Canadiens at the 5:14 and 14:11 marks of the first period. They were the center's 19th and 20th goals of the season and both were assisted by P.K. Subban.

Both teams ended up with a goal in the second period, with Riley Sheahan getting one less than two minutes into the period, and David Desharnais making it 3-1 Montreal off of an assist from Thomas Vanek.

In the third period, Detroit was able to tie the game up after two goals from Tomas Tatar, but the Canadiens answered with two of their own through Max Pacioretty and Vanek. Detroit's Johan Franzen was able to get one back with about half the period remaining, but Montreal was able to hold on for the win.

The first star of the game was Thomas Vanek, who played a great all-around game, scoring a goal and adding two assists. Goalie Carey Price had 26 saves in the win.

This was not Jimmy Howard's best game of the season, only stopping 24 of the 29 shots he faced in the losing effort.
