In an early season matchup, the Columbus Blue Jackets visited the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 15 of 2013. The Red Wings were lifted by Henrik Zetterberg in the second period for the final goal of the game. Jonas Gustavsson then shut Columbus down for the rest of the game with 37 saves.

Gustavsson had been dealing with groin injuries for much of the previous season after being picked up by Detroit in free agency. At this point in the season, Gustavsson was making up for lost time with another fantastic performance. Jimmy Howard was out due to a sore hand and Gustavsson picked up the slack and helped Detroit hold onto the win.

Daniel Alfredsson started off the scoring for the Red Wings with a goal at the 5:05 mark of the first period. In the second, the Blue Jackets answered with an unassisted power play goal by Cam Atkinson. Later in the second, Henrik Zetterberg scored his sixth of the season with a power-play goal at the 11:14 mark. Gustavsson was able to lock it down from there.
