The Detroit Red Wings and the Columbus Blue Jackets played a tightly fought game the last time they met until the Blue Jackets were able to take over in the third period for a 4-1 victory. After the two teams got a goal apiece in the first period, it was Columbus rookie Boone Jenner who put the home team in front for good in the middle of the third. Brandon Dubinsky and Derek MacKenzie got the third and fourth goals for the hosts, and made it look like a much more comfortable victory than it actually was.

Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was the first star in the game, saving 39 of the 40 shots he faced. The game could have definitely gone another way had it not been for Bobrovsky saving multiple shots in the early stages of the game when the Red Wings had two power play opportunities.

Nathan Horton had two assists for the Blue Jackets, and Nick Foligno scored his 17th goal of the season for the home side. The lone scorer on the night for the Red Wings was Danny DeKeyser, who made a bullet of a shot from the point to give Detroit its early lead.

The two teams came into the game with the same amount of points in the East, so it was a huge momentum builder for Columbus.
