The Boston Bruins beat the Detroit Red Wings for the third straight time on Thursday night with a 3-2 overtime victory to take a commanding 3-1 lead in their quarterfinal series. The game was as physical as they come, with the two teams combining for 94 hits in the contest.

Defenseman Niklas Kronwall was the only player to score in the first period and was able to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead on his power-play goal. Pavel Datsyuk put Detroit up 2-0 four minutes into the second period with his second of the series, but Torey Krug answered for the Bruins with a power-play tally midway through the period. One minute into the third period, Milan Lucic completed the Bruins' comeback with a goal that eventually forced overtime.

Boston was able to win the game at the 13:32 mark of the extra period when Jarome Iginla's shot was redirected and beat Detroit goalie Jonas Gustavsson.

Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton had two assists and four shots on goal in the win. Goalie Tuukka Rask was able to stop 35 of the 37 shots he faced for a fantastic .946 save percentage.

Gustavsson wasn't supposed be in net for the Red Wings, but starter Jimmy Howard had to sit out with the flu. Gustavsson ended up having a solid game, making 37 saves and finishing with a .92 save percentage.
