The Dallas Stars last played the Washington Capitals in their second game of the season and were able to beat them 2-1 thanks to good defensive play and solid work in the net. The Caps were close to tying it up multiple times after going down by one, but their shots either hit the bar or were saved by Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen.

Alex Ovechkin and the league's top power play unit were able to get on the board just four minutes into the game, but that was the only goal they would score on the night. It was the Ovechkin's fourth goal in three games played and he came close to adding on to that total multiple times in the game. Mike Green assisted on the power-play tally.

Erik Cole would tie the game up four minutes later off of an assist from Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. It would take until midway in the third period when the deadlock would be broken when Alex Chiasson scored the eventual game-winner. Cody Eakin got the assist on the play as his shot led to Chiasson's rebound and goal.

Lehtonen ended up having a very good game for the Stars, saving 25 of the 26 shots that the Caps attempted. Caps goalie Braden Holtby had a pretty good game as well, stopping 19 of the 21 shots he faced.
