In the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues' last meeting, Jamie Benn was able to score the overtime winner for the Stars to give his team the 3-2 victory. This was the Stars' first game after their center Rich Peverley had to get emergency treatment after he collapsed on their bench against the Columbus Blue Jackets the night before.

Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo helped the league-leading Blues get on the scoreboard first by scoring midway through the first period. However, Colton Sceviour would tie the game up six minutes later with a power-play goal. After no goals were scored in the second period, Antoine Roussel would give the Stars the lead two minutes into the third on a breakaway goal off of an assist from Benn. Just three minutes later, Roman Polak would score the goal for the Blues that would eventually send the game to overtime.

The game looked like it would be heading to a shootout late into the extra period, but Benn was able to get his shot past Ryan Miller's glove to win it for the visitors. Tyler Seguin and Trevor Daley assisted on the winner. Miller finished the game with 27 saves, while Stars goalie Tim Thomas stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced.

This was an emotional win for the Stars as their teammate Peverley was still in the hospital preparing for heart surgery following his collapse.
