When Dallas last played Pittsburgh, the Penguins were coming into an already volatile situation. The Stars took the last three games coming into the game, outscoring their opponents 14-1. With the Penguins winning seven of their last nine, they could have been the team that slowed Dallas down, but that just wasn't the case. Kari Lehtonen recorded another shutout while making 24 saves and helping the Stars to a 3-0 victory.
The Penguins did not give Lehtonen a lot of action in the first and second period with just a combined shot total of 12 before doubling that number in the third. Dallas completely controlled the first with 10 shots on goal and one got by the Penguins' goalie, Marc-Andre Fleury. The second period looked much the same, all Dallas. The Penguins had the best penalty killing squad in the lead with a 11 straight successful penalty kills, but this game would be different.
Kris Letang went off for roughing at 1:14 of the second and 1 second before his penalty expired, Jamie Benn took a pass from Goligoske in the right circle and wristed a shot over Fleury's shoulder to give the Stars a 2-0 lead. Then midway through the second Shawn Horcoff stole the puck then passed it up to Rich Peverley at the right circle again, and he took a shot that beat Fleury for a 3-0 lead. The third period showed no score. Strong play by both sides, but the game score remained the same and the Stars added on to their winning streak.
