Friday night, the Columbus Blue Jackets will meet the Carolina Hurricanes in the second half of a home and home series.

The Columbus Blue Jackets took a 4 -2 loss in the Tuesday night opener of the series at the Nationwide Arena.   The Blue Jackets didn’t seem to have any answers for the Hurricanes as Carolina jumped out to an early 2 – 0 lead late in the 1st period.  Columbus closed the gap to 2 -1 to end the period but Carolina regained the 2 goal lead with the only score of the 2nd period.   After the Blue Jackets cut the lead to one late in the 3rd, the Hurricanes notched one more goal to in the final seconds to seal the win.  The Blue Jackets are bruised, battered and amidst a losing streak that doesn’t look like it’s going to end any time soon.   And the 3 game suspension of defenseman Jack Johnson for an illegal check just makes things worse.

The Carolina Hurricanes on the other hand are playing some of their best hockey of the season.  After opening the season without a win in their first 8 games, the Hurricanes have been on a tear.  The win over the Blue Jackets was the 3rd straight for Carolina.  And while they outshot Columbus and won the face-offs battle, there were some issues that the Hurricane will have to look at.  They went 0 for 6 on the power play and you can’t win many games if you don’t take advantage of the power play.  But with the Blue Jackets hobbled by injuries, the Hurricanes should be able to pick up another win.
