The Colorado Avalanche and the Vancouver Canucks took their last game into overtime the last time they played each other, but the Avs were able to get the 3-2 win less than a minute into the extra period. The win helped Colorado move closer to securing a playoff berth, while the Canucks fell a bit further out of contention.

Yannick Weber put Vancouver on the scoreboard first with a power-play goal halfway through the first period. Five minutes later, though, the Avs were able to answer thanks to Matt Duchene's 23rd goal of the season off assists by Andre Benoit and Cody McLeod.

In the second period, Gabriel Landeskog got Colorado their lead back with his 24th goal, but the Canucks answered back once again, this time through a Zack Kassian tally. The two goalies were able to keep the score the same from then on out, which sent the game into overtime.

In the extra period, defenseman Tyson Barrie was able to find the back of the net after just 55 seconds had run off of the clock. Barrie will take the credit for the goal, but Duchene made the play happen by holding onto the puck and getting a pinpoint pass to the defenseman's stick.

Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov had another great game, stopping 29 of the 31 shots he faced. Vancouver netminder Eddie Lack had 25 saves in the loss.
