Tuesday night, the Colorado Avalanche will take the ice in Toronto against the Maple Leafs.
The Colorado Avalanche will come into Toronto after a Monday afternoon game in Boston against the Bruins. No matter how hard teams prepare for back to back road games, on one knows how a team will respond once the puck drops in that 2nd game. The Avalanche will have to expect that the Maple Leafs will try to exploit any appearance of fatigue. And the Avalanche will also need to find a way to improve on their recent lackluster quality of play. It may be just too tall an order for Colorado. Especially against a Toronto team coming in on a high after a big win Sunday night.
The Toronto Maple Leafs got their first victory of the year after a monster effort against the New York Rangers Sunday night. The Leafs opened the scoring with a Cody Franson goal but the Rangers quickly responded and the game was 1 - 1 at the end of the 1st period. That was as close as the game would get for the rest of the way. Toronto exploded with five 2nd period goals and were up 6 – 2 to start the 3rd. The Leafs allowed a late New York goal but it had no effect on the final result. Those 6 goals were more that the Leafs had scored in their first 2 games combined. And if they can keep things rolling Tuesday night, against a possible fatigued Avalanche team, they just might be able to even their 1-2-0 record.
