The Colorado Avalanche will try to snap their two-game losing streak when they face the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night. Last season, the Blues were able to beat the Avalanche in three out of their four meetings.

The Avalanche played their best all-around game on Thursday when they shut out the New York Islanders 5-0 at home. They were outshot 40-23 in that win, but their penalty kill stopped the Islanders' power play on all six of their chances with the extra man.

The Avalance haven't had a great start to the season, but their penalty kill has been one of the best in the NHL. Center Matt Duchene has three goals and a team-high nine points, while veteran Alex Tanguay and Gabriel Landeskog lead the team with four goals apiece.

On Thursday, the Blues were able to win their third game in a row when they beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-0 at home. Their star of that game was goaltender Jake Allen, who stopped all 24 of the shots he faced for the shutout.

The Blues are near the top of the league in goals against after giving up just two goals per game in their first nine games. Left wing Jaden Schwartz has had a solid start to the campaign by scoring five goals and assisting on three others. Starting goalie Brian Elliott is 3-2-1 with one shutout and a 1.98 GAA.
