The Colorado Avalanche last played the Ottawa Senators on January 8th.  The Avalanche were able to get away with a tight overtime win by a score of 4-3.  Colorado was able to score two quick goals on the Senators in the first period, but Ottawa came back by scoring three unanswered goals.  Their first of the three came in the first period with the second and third goals coming in the third period. 

The Senators led the game 3-2 until the final two minutes of regulation when the Avalanche’s Paul Stastny was able to get the puck past Senators goalie Craig Anderson.  It was Stastny who also provided his teammate, Tyson Barrie, the assist on his game winning shot in overtime.  Barrie’s shot came just thirty three seconds into the overtime.

Currently the Avalanche are 6-1 in their last seven games and are second in their division.  Colorado is six games behind their division leader, St. Louis, and needs to catch up in points.  The Avalanche are 5-1 in their last six games.  Ottawa is twenty five points behind their division leader and have had trouble stringing together wins all season.
