The Colorado Avalanche will be playing in their third of four straight road games when they visit the New York Rangers on Thursday night. Last season, the Avs and the Rangers picked up a win apiece in their two-game regular season series.
On Tuesday night, Avalanche lost for the fourth time in their last five games when they were blown out 6-0 by the New York Islanders. They were dominated in just about every way in that loss and ended up being outshot 46-20.
Through 17 games, the Avs have only been able to score 2.3 goals per game while giving up 3.2 goals per game. Defenseman Tyson Barrie has one goal on the season and he leads the team with nine assists. Goalie Semyon Varlamov is 2-5-4 with a 3.05 GAA and a .918 save percentage.
The Rangers played perhaps their best game of the young season on Tuesday when they shut out the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-0 on home ice. Goalie Henrik Lundqvist had his third shutout of the season in that win and finished with 33 saves.
The Rangers are now in the top 15 in the league in scoring with 2.9 goals scored per game. Left wing Rick Nash, who has 12 goals and five assists in just 15 games, has been one of the best offensive players in the NHL so far this season. Lundqvist now has a 7-4-1 record with a .914 save percentage and a 2.55 GAA.
