Tuesday night, the Colorado Avalanche will journey to the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum to face the New York Islanders.

The Colorado Avalanche tried to mount a comeback in their Saturday night game against the Philadelphia Flyers but they fell just short in the 4 -3 loss.   In that game, the Avalanche fell behind 1 – 0 after the 1st period but they still had a chance as the 2nd period began.  Those chances seemed to disappear in the wake of 3 Philadelphia goals in the 2nd.   But Colorado tried to rally back.  The Avalanche lit the lamp three times in the 3rd and almost tied it up towards the end.  Colorado was doomed by the 3 power play goals they they gave up on Philadelphia’s 6 power plays and the fact that the Avalanche went 0 for 4 on their own power play.   Colorado will have to clean up those numbers as they begin a three game New York-New Jersey road swing.

The New York Islanders pulled out a 1 -0 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night.  The Islanders and Coyotes battled through 2 scoreless periods and it took a Franz Nielsen goal at 17:29 to seal the victory. New York didn’t make it easy on themselves in the win.  Even though they held the Coyotes scoreless on their 5 power play opportunities, the Islanders went 0 for 3 on their power play opportunities.   Back on the home ice after going 3 -2 on a five game road trip, the Islanders will try to win their 4th straight.
