Despite being put on the penalty kill six times during their last matchup with the Nashville Predators, the Colorado Avalanche were able to pull off the 5-4 away win. Nick Holden scored two goals and added an assist for the Avalanche and Semyon Varlamov had 31 saves in the win.

Colorado got off to a flying start in the first, scoring three goals inside of the game's first 12 minutes. Holden had his first of the game six minutes into the contest, then Jan Hejda and Gabriel Landeskog made it 3-0 to the visitors.

Patric Hornqvist put the Predators on the board with a power-play goal in the second. Holden would score his second goal early in the third and Matt Duchene would make it 5-1 with a power-play goal of his own four minutes later.

The game looked done and dusted, but the Predators put up a late fight thanks to goals from Craig Smith, Ryan Ellis and Roman Josi. That made the score 5-4, but the Preds couldn't get the game-tying goal. They went with the extra man to try to beat Varlamov, but the 25-year-old goalie was able to stop their last few chances.

Stastny, John Mitchell and Nathan MacKinnon all finished the game with two assists for the Avalanche. Predators goaltender Devan Dubnyk ended up with just 24 saves on 29 shots against.
