The Colorado Avalanche beat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 in overtime on Saturday to take a 3-2 lead in their quarterfinal series.

After no goals were scored in the opening period, Cody McLeod scored a shorthanded goal eight minutes into the second period to put the Avalanche up 1-0. Just over a minute later, Matt Moulson leveled the score off assists by Jared Spurgeon and Dany Heatley. Nick Holden would get the lead back for Colorado at the 12:16 mark.

Zach Parise was able to tie the game up for the Wild four and a half minutes into the third period, and then Kyle Brodziak scored his second of the series two minutes later to give them their first lead of the game. It looked like the Wild would hold on until Colorado right wing P.A. Parenteau was able to beat Minnesota goalie Darcy Kuemper with just over a minute left in the game to force overtime.

Three and a half minutes into the extra period, 18-year-old rookie Nathan MacKinnon was the hero for the Avs as he was able to control a pass by teammate Gabriel Landeskog and put it past Kuemper.

MacKinnon has definitely been Colorado's best offensive player in this series. He has two huge goals for his team and eight assists.

Colorado netminder Semyon Varlamov had another solid game in net for his team, saving 29 of the 32 shots he faced.
